This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to conduct a first response within a workplace team operation.

A first response teamincludes personnel who prepare for and respond to an emergency incident that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property or the environment in a power generation facility such as that caused through natural disaster, fire, hazardous spills and other dangerous events. First response teams must comply with federal, state and local government laws and regulations for the management of emergency incidents.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan for operation of first response team, manage operation of first response team and report outcomes of emergency response. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator in first responder team, in a power generation facility.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Note: Workplace practice

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Range is restricted to essential operating conditions and any other variables essential to the work environment.
